About
I’m Kevin — technologist, educator, and long-time lover of the night sky.
After decades in software and hardware engineering, I’m returning to one of my earliest passions: astrophotography.
This project chronicles my journey to build a fully automated remote imaging rig at Starfront Observatory in Rockwood, Texas — under pristine Bortle 1 skies — all controlled from my home in Chicago.
My setup includes:
- William Optics RedCat 91 APO Refractor
- ZWO AM5N Harmonic Equatorial Mount
- ZWO ASI6200MM Pro Mono (full-frame)
- LRGB + SHO (3nm) filters
- WO Uniguide 32mm + ZWO ASI174MM Mini for guiding
- Automation with N.I.N.A., PHD2, and ASTAP
On this site you’ll find:
- Journal — from planning to first light
- Photos — my favorite captures
- Equipment — the tools that make it happen
- Process — my imaging and post-processing workflow
Whether you’re a fellow astrophotographer, a student, or just curious about the universe, welcome to my Starfront journey.
